Why do I need to register to download?

I get asked this occasionally - usually when a person has gone through the registration process but hasnt received the confirmation email.

So why?

I had to implement some sort of site security for 2 reasons:

• Bad people who run software download sites come and download my software, attach viruses and then make their infected version of my software available for download. And they get hundreds of downloads - according to their counters. SyringePumpPro does not want to be associated with that.
• At least 2/3rds of the registrations on the site are spammers looking to fill my site with links to offensive and malicious web content. The SyringePumpPro website doesnt want to be marked on the internet as a dangerous site to visit.

Strangely enough the account creation/ email reply system keeps these problems to the low levels I see.

So whilst the registration process occasionally gives a customer a bad experience, it prevents many customers from having a lot worse experiences at the hands of some of the scum of the internet.
